Chanting Patanjali's Yoga Sutras
The sage Patanjali is the author of the Yoga Sutras, one of the ancient, foundational yoga texts and perhaps the single most important yogic commentaries. By tradition in India, the study of philosophical texts begins with chanting. The wisdom of this ancient tradition provides a meditative way to begin the study of yogic philosophy. This foundational workshop will explore some of the most important sutras, discuss how they are relevant in our modern lives and allow participants to experience chanting them in the traditional call-and response method of 'sruti parampara.' We will start at the beginning and chant the first half of the first chapter, Samadhi Pada. Handouts will be provided but feel free to bring your favorite translation of the Yoga Sutras. All levels of seekers welcome!
